GPS Mapping helps you to:

  • reduce fertiliser costs
  • improve and maintain yield
  • reduce the impact to the environment

Typically a farmer will spend £40+ on fertiliser per hectare each year.  To make sure your farm is running cost effectively, GPS mapping gives you the precise requirements of your fields.

The process starts with detailed sampling, where maps are produced showing the variation in soil index levels.  Our agronomist then makes recommendations based on the planned crop, expected yields and straw decisions.

When the fertiliser recommendations have been agreed, GPS application maps are produced.

Detailed Soil Sampling

  • Areas can be identified with GPS sampling, where nutirient deficiency or   acidity could be affecting yields, or where no fertiliser needs to be applied because levels are high
  • Intense sampling is carried out on a ratio of one soil sample location (16 samples) per hectare.
  • Samples are then laboratory analysed to show levels of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and pH.

Field Variation Nutrient Maps

  • Nutrient maps are produced in an easy to understand format, showing you where to apply fertiliser or lime accurately.
  • Accurate nutrition decisions can be made as the maps from the original sampling can be used for all 4 seasons.

Advice and Recommendations

  • We will help you plan a precise management for your lime and fertiliser requirements, based on the map, your field, soil and crops.
  • Our recommendations give your the exact tonnages required for every part of your field, allowing for soil type, yield, straw, crop, variety and your target index level.

Fertiliser Application - variable rate

  • A precise application map is then produced that is compatible with any GPS application system.  All the data provides you with complete records for your fertiliser applications.
